Summary

The Costa Blanca, on the eastern seaboard of mainland Spain and including the city of Alicante, and the well-known tourist resorts of Denia and Benidorm, amongst many other popular destinations enjoys a typically Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild winters. Temperatures in the region can reach as high as 32 degrees Celsius in summer, and rarely fall below 16 degrees even the winter months. 320 days of sunshine per year with, perhaps, 11, or 12, hours per day, during the summer months are not unusual.

Attractions

Unsurprisingly, the Costa Blanca is famous for its beaches, and its opportunities for water sports, and whether you prefer the lively atmosphere of the beaches around, for example, Denia, Benidorm or Torrevieja, or the, perhaps, slightly more tranquil atmosphere of somewhere like Calpe, you will find that you are well catered for. Possibilities for water sports are almost endless, throughout the Costa Blanca, with many sailing, diving and wind surfing schools operating from the marinas and ports long the coast.

Other attractions include the Castell de Santa Barbara, an impressive fortress, dating from as long ago as 400 BC, which towers over the city of Alicante, the city of Elche, with the Huerta del Cura Botanic Gardens amongst its many ecological and historical attractions, and Isla Tabarca, situated only one hour away, by ferry, from Alicante, and a popular excursion destination, when you can snorkel, take a glass-bottomed boat trip, or just enjoy the beaches and excellent seafood restaurants. For the, perhaps, more adventurous, Terra Mitica, just outside Benidorm, is the largest theme park in Spain, offering variety of white knuckle rides, and other family attractions.

Other Information

The Costa Blanca region is well-served by airports at Alicante, Valencia, and Murcia-San Javier, all of which receive direct chartered, or scheduled  international flights, operated by budget airlines, from many regional airports in the UK, and the rest of northern Europe. This means that property in the Costa Blanca is much more accessible, to foreign property investors, than it once was, and that property prices have climbed quite steeply in recent years. However, property on the outskirts of towns and cities on the Costa Blanca is still competitively priced.

Remember to take currency fluctuations into account, when assessing the price of property, or, indeed, the price of anything else, in Spain. The Spanish currency, nowadays as in many other countries of the European Union  is the Euro. Each Euro is divided into 100 cents, and, on an everyday basis, coins and notes in circulation are in very similar denominations to Sterling.
